Spoken English Program: Retelling of Stories:

  1. Tit for Tat: (An Englishman and a Bengalee gentleman were travelling by the same train – The Englishman threw the shoes of the Bengalee gentleman outside the window- the Bengalee gentleman threw the coat of the Englishman outside.)
  2. A farmer and his sons: (A farmer had here quarrelsome sons- he thought of a plan- he asked his sons to break a bundle of sticks- each failed- the bundle was untied- the sticks were easily broken)
  3. Hidden treasure (A farmer had two lazy sons- he hit upon a plan- a hidden treasure in the field- the field was dug up and planted- golden corn came out)
  4. The fox and the grapes: (A hungry fox stole into a vineyard- found ripe grapes hanging from vines- too high for him to reach- jumped and tried to catch the nearest bunch- missed- grapes are sour)
  5. A greedy dog (A dog with a piece of meat in his mouth- saw his own shadow- thought it was another dog with another piece of meat- jumped upon the shadow- lost his own piece of meat)
  6. Two cats and a monkey: (Two cats steal a cake- they quarrel over their share- they ask a monkey to divide the cake- cats are deceived )
  7. The golden goose (A man had a goose- laid a golden egg – man’s wife was greedy- she cut the belly of the goose- found no eggs)
  8. A fox and a goat: (A fox fell into a wall- a goat came- the fox invited him to drink water- the goat jumped down- the fox leaped on its horns and got out of the well)
  9. Two friends and a bear: (Two friends travelling through a forest- met a bear- one jumped a tree- another lay down like a dead man- bear smelt the man- thought dead- left him.
  10. A tiger and a lamb :(A lamb was drinking water- a wolf came- wolf wanted to eat the lamb- accused lamb for mudding water- accused lamb of abusing the wolf one year ago- the lamb not born- lamb’s father – killed the lamb.
  11. Carodimal and Coconut seller: (Carodimal goes to buy green coconut- bargains- goes to another seller to buy for less money- climbs the tree- slips down- gets injured)
